Leadership Team
Laurie Kemp
South Central Regional Director

About

Laurie Kemp has more than a decade of experience, in the financial services industry. Prior to joining PenChecks Trust®, she held several positions with GoldStar Trust Company, a $2 billion division of Happy State Bank that offers self-directed IRA custodian, trustee and escrow/paying agent services. Her broad background in these areas includes sales and consulting within the retirement industry, working with alternative assets held in IRAs, new business generation and back-office operational and administrative experience. Laurie’s deep passion for helping others and her ability to develop and cultivate long-term client relationships are a perfect fit for the customer-focused role of Regional Director.

Executive Profile

Laurie Kemp is a classic example of how hard work, dedication and a passion for customer service can lead to success in the financial services industry. She began her career as a receptionist for GoldStar Trust Company’s Investor Services department in Canyon, Texas. She soon moved into the operational side of the business, gaining hands-on experience in a variety of administrative and back-office duties. From there she joined the sales team, where she gained valuable experience introducing the company’s services to prospective and existing clients.

While attending industry conferences, Laurie got to know several members of the PenChecks Trust team, including Chairman and CEO Peter Preovolos, President Spiro Preovolos and National Sales Director Scott Okrasinksi. When Scott offered her an opportunity to join the PenChecks sales team, she didn’t hesitate.

“PenChecks has a reputation as the pioneers and leaders in this business,” says Laurie. “They were the first to introduce missing participant and default auto rollovers, and were coming up with solutions before the government started writing legislation on these issues. After getting to know Scott and other team members, I knew I wanted to be a part of this growing company.”

There’s Always a Solution

Laurie’s background with GoldStar Trust and her problem-solving orientation align perfectly with the requirements of a PenChecks Trust Regional Director. Her experience on the operational side of the business, combined with her in-depth knowledge of ERISA and Department of Labor rules and regulations, gives her unique insights into the needs of today’s retirement Plan Sponsors, TPAs and Institutions. Implementing Auto Rollover IRA solutions for a diverse customer base taught her how to craft compliant solutions that meet the needs of individual clients.

What Gets Laurie Excited About Coming to Work Every Day?

“First, I’m a people person,” she explains. “I love getting to know my clients – at a business and personal level – and developing long-term relationships with them. I also enjoy solving problems for people and making their lives easier. I find it very satisfying to provide solutions that relieve clients of burdens that get in the way of doing their jobs more effectively.”

“That’s another reason I wanted to join PenChecks Trust. I remember Peter saying at a conference that there is always a solution. Clients have different problems, but there’s always a way to figure out a solution. Instead of shutting down and saying it can’t be done, PenChecks is always open to new ideas and figuring out an answer to the problem.”

Hoops and a Motto to Live By

Laurie’s service orientation carries over to her personal life as well. She currently serves as president of the Canyon Rotary club and a board member of the local school district education foundation. She and her husband of 20 years, Dusty, have two daughters, Jordan and Riley. Both play basketball (the elder also coaches a junior high team), so Laurie’s weekends are usually spent in a gym cheering on her girls’ teams. Otherwise, she enjoys traveling throughout the U.S., seeing all this great country has to offer.

The best advice Laurie ever received? Always do the right thing (which she attributes to Peter Preovolos). To that she adds, “I believe that service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on earth. I try to live according to that motto and pass it on to my daughters.”
