When PenChecks was first named a San Diego Top Workplace in the UT San Diego workplace survey of 2021, it was a humbling experience. When we received the recognition again in 2022, I felt we deserved it. Now that we were chosen for the third year in a row in 2023, I am bursting with pride. Partly for the award but more so for the employees who make PenChecks such a great place to work.
Our dedicated employees feel the way they do about PenChecks in large part because of our culture, which involves more than just the way we treat them and the benefits we provide. Most people want a work environment that provides internal meaning and purpose. PenChecks fulfills this need by making a positive impact in our industry and the world, and intentionally investing in the growth and support of our employees in many different ways.
PenChecks employees love the collaborative environment, where individuals are listened to when they come up with new ideas – even if those ideas seem a bit off the beaten path. They also appreciate the opportunities for personal and professional growth. By striving to create the kind of environment where people want to work, our team members reward us by bringing their best to the job every day.
Staying True to Our Values
Our culture lays the foundation for a great place to work. Our values keep the culture consistent. Last year we brought on some very experienced managers to challenge the status quo and introduce new systems and processes on our way to becoming a respected and admired fintech company. This required some changes in the way we do some things, but not in the values that define this company.
For example, trust and innovation have always been and will always be part of our deeply held core values. Over the years, allowing employees the freedom to innovate has created great value for PenChecks, and we expect our new colleagues will do the same. Hiring senior level managers from outside the company can sometimes inject uncertainty into a business. But as long as we build trusting relationships our teams can thrive while honoring our sacred values.
Our people understand that we have a unique opportunity to do something great with PenChecks, and the collective gratitude we share for this opportunity plays a key role in driving our performance and success. As long as we remain focused on building a coveted and protected culture that fosters creativity and honors the purpose of serving others, PenChecks will continue to remain a place where people want to work.
