Leadership Team
Wendy Henderson

Vice President of Quality and Logistics

About

A member of the PenChecks team since 2000, Wendy manages and oversees the company’s operations department, which includes the trust, distributions and client services groups. Previously, she served as Controller of PenChecks for eight years, and retains various duties related to that position as well. Her broad experience gained from these two positions provides unique insights into the company’s structure, organization and operations that help PenChecks serve our clients more efficiently and effectively. Wendy graduated cum laude from Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado with a B.S. degree in accounting. She has served as the treasurer for her local Little League chapter and elementary school PTSA, and currently serves as the president of her local high school booster club.

Executive Profile

As the mother of two young children, Wendy came to PenChecks Trust® seeking a part-time job with a flexible schedule that would allow her to keep her family as top priority while putting her accounting degree to good use. She started out working one day a week, and quickly fit in with the young, growing company. Over time one day turned into two, two days into three, and three days into a full-time position. Sixteen years later, Wendy now serves as the company’s Vice President of Operations, where she plays a key role in keeping PenChecks Trust running smoothly and efficiently.

Wendy’s main responsibilities consist of overseeing the trust, distributions and client services departments, making sure they operate efficiently while meeting PenChecks Trust’s lofty service standards. She strives to make existing processes, procedures and services more efficient and scalable, and looks for new ways to expand PenChecks Trust offerings to provide an even broader base of products and services for clients.

Superior Service on Every Call

For Wendy, delivering great customer service starts with hiring people who have a winning personality and the innate service attributes – such as patience, empathy, and good communication skills – to help clients solve their problems. A financial services background helps, but it’s not essential because that can be taught. Instead, Wendy focuses on finding people who share the company’s culture and values and are willing to go the extra mile to ensure each client gets exceptional service on every call.

Believing that well educated employees provide better service, Wendy also provides opportunities for service reps to learn about the retirement plan space beyond the specifics of their individual jobs. These include internal training sessions, paying for employees to attend external classes, and having individual staff members share their expertise in a particular area with the rest of the team. The goal is to enable all employees to take a consultative approach by providing accurate, timely information to help clients make informed decisions about their retirement plan distributions.

Finally, to keep the quality of service high, Wendy ensures all service reps receive regular feedback on their calls, including what they did well and how they could improve, as well as providing specific advice on complex technical issues.

A Family Oriented Company

What has kept Wendy working for PenChecks Trust for 18 years?

“I’ve always appreciated the flexible schedule and the opportunity to grow with the company as my family grew,” she says. “PenChecks is a family oriented company, which makes it a very comfortable and safe place to work. It’s also exciting to work in a company that is constantly pushing the envelope to develop new products and services to better serve our clients.”

Now that Wendy’s kids have begun to leave the nest, life has become a bit less hectic. Although heavily involved in the boys’ school and sports activities when they were younger, Wendy now prefers to spend her free time relaxing at home on the family’s five acres, either reading, floating in the pool, or listening to music. Wendy also enjoys traveling to Colorado several times a year to visit extended family members.
